| Contrary to
popular belief, the letters "ISO" do not stand for the "International
Standards Organization", but rather they come from the Greek, meaning
"the same as". ( "Isobars" on a weather map connect areas of
similar air pressure for example").
The worldwide organization that is responsible for publishing ISO 9000:2000 and other standards is called the International Organization for Standardization and has is headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The small full time staff there co-ordinate and publish the work of many Technical Committees. Individual countries then decide whether or not to use published or updated standard. |
